Arrest warrants issued for 30 accused curfew breakers

Thirty arrest warrants were on Friday issued for persons who were due to be formally charged with breaching restrictions on social activities. 

Senior Magistrate Leron Daly, who is presiding at Court Two at the George-town Magistrates’ Courts, ordered  arrest warrants for Candace Williams,  Tikya Marcus, Tivon Ming, Shirkah Cameron, Ashanti Marcus, Mark Collins, Alavida Barker, Tamika Fraser, Brian Bacchus, Frank Hugh, Jemell Maxwell, Tamara Dellon, Scarno Sinclair, Faith Forbes, Elijah Forbes, Chaitram Persuad, Angel St’Clair, Melanie Jones, Susan Paul, Malika Marslow, Paul Dennis, Sofia Sanchez, Randy Docks, Candace Williams, July Williams, Shank Williams, Dennis Jones, Martisha Stephen, Dequan Durant and Susan Smith after they did not show up at  the court to be formally charged.

The 30 persons were reportedly arrested on April 4, in the vicinity of Kitty, for breaching the national curfew.

On April 9, Senior Magistrate Daly had issued arrest warrants for 21 persons who were no-shows at the court after being charged by police with breaching the curfew stipulations.

According to the Guyana Police Force, several checks were made at different locations in the city on April 4, to ensure that the nightclubs and bars were closed. The police said that while checking Kairos Bar, located at Charlotte Street, Georgetown, at about 1.30 am, the 21 persons were arrested after being told about the breach of restrictions.
