Arrest warrants issued for 21 accused curfew violators

Arrest warrants have been issued for 21 persons who were due to be formally charged with breaching restrictions on social activities.

Senior Magistrate Leron Daly on Friday ordered that arrest warrants for Eric Moses, Akisha Forrester, Natalie Cush, Jason Bacchus, Elizabeth Payne, Aaliyah Harding, Mark Jones, Lisa Smith, Faith Bacchus, Sarah Tucker, Selidyn Prescott, Abiola Lackno, Abiki Moses, Shania Carter, Tiffany Anthony, Roger James, Mark Blackman, Carl Adams, Tanesa Joseph, Tasha Payne and Janenda Singh after they did not show up at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to be formally charged.

The 21 persons were reportedly among a number of persons who were arrested on April 4 for breaching the national curfew. The Guyana Police Force was on patrol and made several checks to ensure that the nightclubs and bars were closed. The police said that while checking Kairos Bar, located at Charlotte Street, Georgetown, at about 1.30 am, the bar appeared to be closed but noise could be heard coming from inside.

For this reason, the police accompanied by a National COVID-19 Task Force Unit knocked at the door at the entrance of the bar for about ten minutes before the door was opened. The alleged bargoers were told about the breach of restrictions and warned before being escorted to the Brickdam Police Station.
