Nine persons were on Thursday charged after they were allegedly found in breach of the countywide COVID-19 curfew in Region Nine (Upper Takutu- Upper Essequibo).
They have been identified as Johnny DaSilva, Elton Nicholson, Diana Chaitram, Kevin Campbell, Patrick George, Simon DeMondonca, Leiwen Li, Nadia Jervis and Anthony Malcolm.
They all appeared before Magistrate Allan Wilson at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court.
Seven of the offenders pleaded guilty. They were fined $16,250 each, with an alternative of six months imprisonment if they failed to pay the fine.
However, Jervis pleaded not guilty and was released on her own recognisance. Her trial is scheduled to begin on Monday, while Malcolm failed to show up in court and an arrest warrant was issued for him as a result.
