Golden Grove couple robbed by four men

A Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara businessman and his wife were attacked on Thursday and robbed of a cellular phone and $100,000 cash by four men.

Police in a press release on Thursday said that Girdharry Dhanraj and his wife, Zarena, were attacked by four men, one of whom was armed with a firearm. Two of the men approached Dhanraj on the pretext of purchasing steel rods and the other two remained on the roadway.

As the businessman opened his gate to allow the two “fake customers” on his Grove New Housing Scheme premises he was held at gunpoint by one man. The other man entered Dhanraj’s home, confronted his wife and took away the cellular phone and cash.

The attackers subsequently escaped and are yet to be apprehended by police. The police press release also said that during the incident Dhanraj was struck about his body with the firearm. He was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, treated and released.
