Disgruntled worker chops dredge operator

A dredge operator was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital for surgery after being chopped several times about the body by a disgruntled employee yesterday in the Omai area (Potaro-Siparuni).

Shane Rankin, 31, of Meadow Brook Gardens was reportedly chopped to the leg, chest and back by an employee during an argument about a sum of money. The employee, according to reports, demanded double the amount of money Rankin had promised to pay. After the man refused to pay the sum, the employee reportedly became enraged and dealt Rankin several chops.

When Stabroek News visited the hospital shortly after 4 pm yesterday Rankin had just been taken to the theatre for surgery. Hospital sources reported that the man had lost a lot of blood and was in a serious, but stable, condition.

Meanwhile, this newspaper understands that police have since taken the attacker into custody.
