Should have been at sea…Venezuelan fishermen found on Regent St fined

Two Venezuelan Nationals were on Friday ordered to pay a fine of $30,000 or spend 12 months in prison after pleading guilty to the charge of illegal disembarkation when they appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

On June 3 at Georgetown, Juan Jose Marcano and Wolfgan Luis Romeno Marves having entered Guyana by sea disembarked their vessel without the consent of an immigration officer.

According to the Prosecution, the duo had been granted legal permission to fish in Guyana’s waters. On the day in question however the two were found by police on Regent Street. When asked for legal documents to support their being there, the duo said that they had none.
