2009 Linden invitational football tournament

– Action packed quarter finals set for tonight

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) is the only city side in this year’s Linden Invitational Football tournament.

Tonight, the GDF will face Milerock in the feature game of a  double header at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.

It will be the army boys first outing in the tournament but since they have been seeing some amount of success in the Georgetown league and several other tournaments this year, their clash against Milerock is expected to be keenly contested.

The Linden side lost to Bakewell Topp XX in the final of the event last year and as such it is expected that the home team would want to make up for narrowly missing out last year.

The winner will move on to play a hungry-looking Amelia’s Ward United in a semi-final clash on Friday.

Meanwhile, in the curtain raiser, Netrockers and Winners Connection will duel for a chance to face Topp XX in the other semi-finals.

Both sides are evenly-matched and the two teams are engaged in a long-running feud which will certainly not end tonight despite the result.
