East Coast Football Reunion tourney…

Fruta Conquerors and Alpha United will meet in the final of the East Coast Demerara Reunion football tournament tonight at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda to decide who goes home with the one million dollar prize.

The two teams will collide in the feature battle which begins at 8pm while the only surviving East Coast team, Victoria Kings will oppose the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) in the third place showdown.

On Thursday, Conquerors and Alpha United defeated Kings and GDF comfortably in the semi-final round.

In the first encounter Fruta Conquerors defeated Victoria Kings 2-0 in extra time after a very tough battle while Alpha United brushed aside GDF 3 – 0 to enter the final round.
The feature game saw Alpha and the GDF getting off to a very hot pace which they kept up for most of the encounter. The soldiers played with purpose and heart and should have scored early on but were unlucky when the shot attempted sailed wide. GDF was then forced to play with a squad of 10 players after Elvis Philips was sent off for committing a foul.

But it was soon an even game again when the referee handed Alpha’s Philbert Moffett the red card.

Edison Gomes drew first blood for Alpha in the 14th minute when he slammed a powerful shot into the back off the net after receiving a cross from Dwayne Jacobs.
The second half saw Dwight Peters turning up the heat on the soldiers as he netted in the 46th and 65th minutes to put the score at 3 – 0.

The night got worse for GDF when Gavin Wilson was given marching orders by the referee for tackling wildly.

Jomo Hinds silenced the huge Victoria Kings crowd when he put his team ahead in the 92nd minute before Delon Williams made it 2 – 0 in the 105th during the Kings’ desperate attempt to equalize.

The Kings have only themselves to blame for flunking their scoring opportunities as Reuben Morris missed quite a few chances while Conquerors themselves were guilty of splurging a few.
