$9M theft accused tells court ‘deh jus trying fuh frame me’

A 36-year-old man who said tearfully that he was being wrongfully accused of  a theft involving cash and items in excess of $9M was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

“Deh jus trying fuh frame me an blame me an seh all kinda tings bout me because I is a poor man, but me aint do nothing meh worship,” said Deonauth Samaroo of 43 Middleton Street, Campbellville.

It is alleged that between August 1 and  2 at Georgetown, Samaroo broke and entered the dwelling house of Earl Glasgow and stole cash and items valued $9,210,000.

Samaroo was not required to plead to the indictable charge of break and enter and larceny when it was read to him by the magistrate.
Police Prosecutor Munilall Seetaram told the court that the virtual complainant (VC) who is a tradesman had secured his house and premises  and left for Suriname. According to Seetaram, when the VC returned he found that his house had been broken into and a report was  subsequently made to the police.

The prosecutor said that the defendant had attempted to sell three cell phones that he had stolen from the VC’s house.  Seetaram objected to bail.

Amidst his loud cries Samaroo was remanded to prison. His matter is to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice. He will return to Court Three on  September 9.
