Wounding convict flees from NA prison

A prisoner, who was serving two concurrent three-year sentences, escaped from the New Amsterdam Prisons on Thursday.

Police last evening said Krishna Teckadharry, 30, of Number 70 Village, Corentyne Berbice escaped from the prison. The prisoner was last seen at the facility at about 8 pm that day.

Teckadharry, police said, was serving prison terms for discharging a loaded firearm with intent and for wounding. The man was slapped with three years for each offence and was serving the sentences concurrently. He began doing his time on January 27, this year.

Police offered no further details on the incident, neither was a photograph of the man supplied. It is the latest in a series of escapes that have plagued the prison system.
