His body was yesterday identified by relatives at the Lykens Funeral Home. Sattaur, who resided at 297 Independence Boulevard, La Penitence, was missing since Tuesday.  He was 23-years-old.

Relatives said that they did not suspect foul play to be involved but stated that they were awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination which will be conducted on Monday.

According to Raymond Ramcharran, uncle of the deceased, he last saw his nephew alive when he left his home around 12:30 pm on Tuesday.

“He did not say where he was going”, Ramcharran stated.  The man said that his nephew “would go for drives” to various parts of the country from time to time but would always return.    He said that his nephew would travel by minibus to areas such as Parika, Mahaica and other areas.

Ramcharran said that he became worried when his nephew had not returned in time for dinner that evening. According to him, he immediately began to search around the city to find him.  This search proved futile. He said that he continued his search in the following days, even going as far as Mahaica. The man said that he decided that he would wait 24 hours before reporting his nephew’s disappearance to the police. After the matter was reported a missing person’s bulletin was placed in the press.
According to him, his nephew suffered from “a form of depression” and was undergoing treatment.  Ramcharran said that while his nephew did not have a full-time job, he would help him with his work as a goldsmith. He said that his nephew was like a son to him since he had practically grown up with him.

Ramcharran told this newspaper that prior to leaving the house, Sattaur ate his lunch but did so in a very unusual manner. According to him, Sattaur ate his food quickly and in the presence of some business clients, which he said was odd. He would always eat in private, the man disclosed.

Meanwhile, the man’s mother, described her son as a “very quiet and reserved individual who would keep things to himself.”  She also said that he was very kind.

She further said that her son was an educated boy who at one time had dreams of becoming a pilot. She said that he did well inspite of various challenges, including the fact that he grew up in a single-parent home.

She told this newspaper that Sattaur then migrated to North America. She said that while there, her son was diagnosed with having a form of schizophrenia. She disclosed that since then, Sattaur was on medication.   The woman said that circumstances forced him to return to Guyana.

Sattaur’s body was found in the Demerara River in the vicinity of the Guyana Quality Seafood Inc. building.
This newspaper was told that a worker at the factory noticed the body around 9:30 am on Thursday and contacted the police.
Following, the discovery of the body, a police source said that the body was so badly decomposed that investigators could not recognize any signs of violence.
The man was clad in blue pants and a jersey and was bare foot when he was discovered.
