Indian board says opposes WADA clause despite gov’t stand

CHENNAI, India, (Reuters) – India’s cricket board  would continue seeking an amendment to the World Anti-Doping  Agency’s whereabouts clause despite its own government backing  the rule, president Shashank Manohar told local media yesterday.

The influential Indian cricket board last month backed its  players’ refusal to sign up, citing security and privacy issues  to oppose the clause requiring them to nominate a time for  every day of the year when they will be available for testing.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will discuss the  Indian board’s request at a special meeting in Johannesburg  next month.

“The BCCI’s (Board of Control for Cricket in India) stand  on the WADA issue is the same as it was,” Manohar told the  Indian Express.
