Food For The Poor donates hybrid seeds to agri ministry

Food For The Poor (Guy) Inc. yesterday presented hybrid seeds and farming equipment to the Ministry of Agriculture, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported.

And Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, George Jarvis said that the donation will go towards the Agriculture Extension School Programme, an ongoing initiative by the ministry.

According to Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Food For The Poor, Adassa Hammond, the organisation has developed farming projects at Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast, at the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara and one is currently being set up at Kuru Kuru to promote agriculture as a viable source of income.

GINA said also that over the years Food For The Poor has been collaborating with the ministry to provide support to farmers, according to its mandate to alleviate poverty.

Food For The Poor is a charitable, non-governmental organisation that was established on June 3, 1991. It is funded mainly through pledges, donations and fund-raising activities and operates through its various committees, groups, churches and other NGOs.
