Two women charged with assault after argument on Merriman’s Mall

A 43-year-old woman who appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful assault before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.

It is alleged that on November 5 at Merriman’s Mall, Bourda, Maxine Grant unlawfully assaulted Waylene La Rose. La Rose was also charged with assault but was absent from court.

Prosecutor Krishnadat Ramana told the court that a heated argument had broken out between the two women, resulting in La Rose slapping Grant who in turn scrambled at La Rose’s clothes. Grant told the court that La Rose had a hammer in her hand and when her husband interceded and took the hammer, La Rose slapped her. She said that she did not hit La Rose but merely scrambled her clothes after she was slapped.

Grant was then placed on self-bail and told to return to court on December 8.
