Stole shaving blades from boutique

Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday ordered that a 48-year-old man pay a fine of $30,000 or spend eighteen months in prison after admitting to stealing several machine blades used in shaving machines from a boutique.

Cecil Spencer of Lot 32 Princes Street, Wortmanville, had entered a guilty plea to the charge of simple larceny when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

He admitted that on December 14, at Dexter’s Latest Styles and Barber Supplies, he stole five machine blades valued $28, 000, property of Romane Jordan.
Jordan, who was also present in court stated that Spencer had came into her boutiques six times in the last three months “always asking if we gah size forty pants” and added that on every occasion she would tell him that she do not import such sizes. She said that she also noticed that on each occasion several items from the boutique would go missing.

She said that on the day of the incident Spencer had gone to her boutique and had tried on a pair of pants but that one of her staff members had seen him remove the blades from the wrack that they were on.

She went on to say that when she confronted Spencer he denied taking the items and had attempted to leave her boutique but that she blocked the door and requested that he empty his pockets.

Jordan noted that Spencer then took out the blades from his pockets, handed them to her, told her that he was sorry and then attempted to flee.

She further stated that she raised an alarm and several public spirited persons apprehended him on South Road and had later handed him over to the police.

“Yes I de tek them when dey din looking but ah sorry, ah even gey she $20,000 for mek up”, stated Spencer.

Jordan informed the court that she never received any money.
