A visionless act

Dear Editor,

I am tired of these old-time visionless politicians in Guyana dictating to the young generation what we should do to pave a path for a better Guyana. Most of these old-timers have outlived their usefulness in the political arena, and indeed some have contributed tremendously during their time. I salute those who have done our nation proud, but the time has come for new and young persons to emerge and take up their leadership roles in society.

This task should be done without the impediment of a few of those among us who shamelessly show racial bias. We must rebuild our beloved nation, and we must take back our country from those who are bent on dividing and using the ordinary folks as footstools. Such agendas should be deemed as unacceptable and we must as a people stand up and defend our rights, even with our last breath. That my brothers and sisters is called democracy.

Having said that, I wish to congratulate the Stabroek News for a well put together editorial ‘City election would be a farce.’ Indeed, it would be a farce because the very old-timers within the ruling PPP/C regime and the ailing PNCR have once again displayed their dictatorial tendencies by allowing mayoral elections within the inner circle of the city council instead of having the masses decide on who should be their mayor. It’s just another shameless and visionless act being perpetrated by both President Jagdeo and Leader of the Opposition, Mr Robert Corbin.

Yours faithfully,
Mark Benschop
