Cyclist, 72, dies after crash with motorbike

A 72-year-old pedal cyclist died two days after she was involved in an accident with a motor cyclist on New Year’s Day on Main Street, New Amsterdam.

A police release said that Sybil Hetemeyer of St Magdalene Street, New Amsterdam was involved in an accident at around 19:45 pm on January 1 and was initially admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital but later transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital where she died on Sunday.
According to the release, Hetemeyer was cycling along the roadway when it is alleged that she attempted to ride across the road and was struck down by an oncoming motorcycle.

Hetemeyer and the motorcyclist were both taken to New Amsterdam Hospital where the motorcyclist is still a patient.
