Body of man found in abandoned car

The remains of a man, suspected to be a vagrant, were discovered in an abandoned car behind the Botanical Gardens yesterday morning.

Police, Stabroek News learnt from a source, have since identified the man as Leon Brutus.

The body is currently at the Lyken’s Funeral Home and efforts are being made by police to locate relatives of the man.

This newspaper understands that Brutus was one of several vagrants who lived in abandoned cars in the area. Clothes and other personal possessions were discovered in the car along with Brutus’ remains.

“It is not certain how long the body has been there,” the source said, “but it was so badly deteriorated that the bones could be seen in some places.”
