Dhaniram retains place in Canada’s team

TORONTO, Canada, CMC – Veteran Guyanese all-rounder Sunil Dhaniram has retained his place in Canada’s set-up for the start of their 2010 campaign and will participate in a training camp this month in Sri Lanka.

The 41-year-old Dhaniram, who played for Guyana in the early 1990s, has been a regular in the Canadian squad over the past four years.

The left-arm spinner and lower order batsman also had a brief stint as Canada’s captain.

Cricket Canada has announced a 14-man squad – with India-born Ashish Bagai as captain — for the training camp in Sri Lanka, travelling to Colombo as a warm-up for the ICC World Twenty20 2010 qualifying series.

Other players are expected to join the squad once they have finished playing at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand.

The 2010 ICC World T20 qualifying series will be played from February 9-13 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The eight competing teams will be Canada, the hosts UAE, Afghanistan, Ireland, Kenya, the Netherlands, Scotland, and the USA.

The top two teams will progress to play in the 2010 ICC World T20 in the Caribbean in April/May.
