Thieves cart off $1m from attorney’s home

As attorney-at-law Trenton Lake slept, bandits invaded his home during the wee hours of yesterday morning carting off items worth more than $1M.

Lake told Stabroek News via telephone that the incident occurred some time between 1 and 4 am yesterday. He believes the perpetrators used “some sort of sleep inducing gas” before searching the house.

“When I got up this morning and realized what had happened I was shocked,” Lake said. “The place wasn’t ransacked…whoever broke in just walked through the house and neatly picked up our valuables.”

Four other persons, Lake said, live at the Lot 202 Shell Road, Kitty home. All their cellular phones, two computers, jewellery, cash and other valuables were stolen. The fact that the place was not ransacked, the attorney said, seems to suggest that the robbers were familiar with the surroundings.

“A computer which was located on a desk right at my bedside,” he said, “was taken…I believe they used some sort of sleep inducing gas because that is the only way they could’ve walked around and had time to find our things.”

As soon as the break-in was discovered a report was made at the Kitty Police Station. Ranks from the Criminal Investigation Department, Lake said, visited and processed the scene.

“Some CID ranks were here after we reported the matter,” Lake said, “and they dusted the place for prints…I guess that’s that.”
