Man accused of stealing over $1M in phone credit, other valuables in robbery

A man accused of stealing over a million dollars in phone credit and other valuables was yesterday remanded on an armed robbery charge.

Nicholas Singh, who stood before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge read to him.

It was alleged that on March 24, 2020, at 65 Bent Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, Singh, being armed with a gun, robbed Andrew Blackman of $887,000 in phone credit, three cell phones valued at $117, 000 and a gold chain worth $90,000.

He is also accused of stealing $85,000 in cash, a haversack valued $9,000, a C-Point machine valued $5,000 and a gold ring worth $4,000, which were the property of Blackman, on the same day.

Police prosecutor Ricardo Innis, who objected to bail, told the court that Blackman was unable to attend court, and unable to walk due to the injuries he sustained to his leg as a result of the robbery.

He also elaborated on the seriousness of the crime and noted that Singh was positively identified in a police lineup.

As a result, Magistrate Daly remanded Singh to prison until May 4, 2020, when the matter will be called again.
