Whipple to resume rugby camp

Head Coach of the West Indies Rugby team, Joe Whipple, arrives in Guyana today to resume training for the weekend as the Technical Director of the Guyana Men’s team that will be participating in the IRB USA International Sevens World Series.

The event will be held in Las Vegas from February 13-14. The five-time Caribbean champs will open their quest for history against Australia on February 13 since they are grouped with New Zealand, Australia and France in Group A in the 16-team tournament.

Whipple is still being assisted by Head Coach and Assistant Coach Laurie Adonis and Clinton Clarke respectively.

According to earlier reports from Adonis, he said that the current training squad will be cut down to 12 persons although it would not be an easy task.

The programme for the weekend training camp will include emphasis on tackle techniques, defensive alignment and contact zone, offensive patterns, lineouts and scrimmage while they will also have practice games, indoor sessions and video sessions at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club for the weekend.

All practice sessions and games will be conducted at the Rugby Playfield, National Park.
