Cooks in hot water over breach of peace

Afreya Denny, 37, of Nutmeg Street, Festival City pleaded not guilty to unlawfully assaulting Marcia Penton by way of spitting on her at Campbellville Housing Scheme on January 19. Denny also on the same day and at the same place made use of indecent language and issued a threat whereby a breach of the peace may be occasioned.

Meanwhile, Marcia Penton, 44, of 195 Campbellville Housing Scheme pleaded not guilty to making use of indecent language and issuing a threat towards Denny on January 7 at Campbellville Housing Scheme.

Penton’s attorney, Sheila Baker told the court that her client resides with her two minor children and mother. She then asked the magistrate for all parties to approach the bench. Denny’s attorney, Paul Fung-A-Fat then joined the discussion at the bench.

Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson after listening to the arguments placed Denny on $17,000 bail and Penton on $7,000 bail and ordered the women to speak to a probation officer. The pair are to return to court on February 26.
