Clothes vendor, construction worker deny robbery with violence charge

A clothes vendor and a construction worker were yesterday placed on $50,000 bail each when they appeared on a robbery with violence charge before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.

Kempt Beckles, 35, of   124 C Field, Sophia and Patrick Armstrong, 27, of 91 Grove, East Bank  Demerara, both pleaded not guilty to robbing Leroy Vanherstel of one wallet valued $1,000 and $10,000 cash and immediately before or after used personal violence against him.

The items were not recovered and Police Prosecutor, Inspector Stephen Telford objected to bail.

Telford told the court that the address provided by the number two defendant, Armstrong, differs from the one he gave the police.

However Armstrong told the court that he spends most of his time at the Grove address where he lives with an aunt while the address he had given the police was that of his girlfriend where he also lives.

The duo has to return to court on February 26 in Court Two.
