In an advertisement appearing in today’s issue of Stabroek News it was stated that the management of the complex has taken the decision to prohibit the utilization of the facility for activities not related to its original purpose.
“This initiative is in keeping with efforts by the Guyana Sugar Corporation to maintain the integrity of the facility, which is historic and an important location particularly for international and regional cricket and the future development of sport, our sportsmen and sportswomen,” the advertisement said.
As a result events which accompany the use of alcohol and its related effects that have a potential to cause damage to the ground will be prohibited.
The management said that they would, however, accommodate civil society and religious functions on a tarmac adjoining the ground.
It was noted that Rose Hall and Port Mourant Community Centres will continue to be available for social events.
