Man fined for beating ex-wife with walking stick

Cedric Sealy, 67, of 22 Industrial Area, Mackenzie, Linden appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan on Tuesday at the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court charged with malicious wounding and causing grievous bodily harm.

According to the facts, on Sunday January 24, at his Industrial Area home, Sealy maliciously wounded his reputed wife Denise Carroll.

Pleading guilty to the offence, Sealy and told the court: “I cannot speak to her, she want to beat me up. She would push me down.”

He said that on the day in question he went into the bedroom and noticed Carroll packing to move out. “She cuff me down and I lash her with meh walking stick,” he said.

He also said that he has a speech impediment and has walked with the aid of a stick since he suffered a stroke four years ago.

Magistrate McLennan instituted a fine of $10,000 for Sealy or in default one week’s imprisonment. He was given a period of two weeks in which to pay the fine.

Sealy and Carroll were together for eight years until they parted ways on January 24.
