Two men granted $30,000 bail each on wounding charge

Seventeen-year-old Denzil Mingo of 39 Third Street, Alberttown and 20-year-old Jason Lashley of 75 Sixth Street, Alberttown both pleaded not guilty to the charge when they appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday.

However, the Virtual Complainant, Atwell, is seeking further compensation even after he was paid $120,000 by  Mingo’s father.

According to Police Prosecutor Inspector Stephen Telford, the VC is seeking compensation for the injuries he has received.

Telford said the VC said the money he had received was to cover the cost of a gold chain that went missing when the men had an altercation.

Lashley told the magistrate that he was only parting the fight and did not wound the VC. And Mingo told the court that while having a friendly argument in front of their friend’s place as to how their car tire got punctured, the VC intervened and told them not to make noise because they would disturb the neighbour.

Mingo went on to say that an altercation later broke out between him and the VC. However the VC said that he did tell them not to make noise but Mingo went for a gun and hit him.

The matter is to return to court on February 25.
