GUYOIL guard denies assaulting taxi driver

A GUYOIL security guard was yesterday placed on $15,000 bail when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson charged with unlawfully assaulting a taxi driver on Regent Street.

Rodwell Clarke pleaded not guilty to unlawfully assaulting Sheldon McKennan on February 13 at Regent Street.

Clarke, 47, of 46 Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara told the court that he was a security guard with GUYOIL Service Station and on the day in question, the virtual complainant (VC) who was in the habit of removing the traffic cones after the petrol pumps were shut down, repeated the practice and was asked to leave.

An argument ensued and the VC left and returned some 20 minutes later with a policeman, Clarke said, who told him he was being charged.

However, McKennan said that he was “chuck up” in his chest by Clarke who had a pen in his hand. According to the VC he was a regular customer at the service station but one of the pump attendants did not like him. He said that attendant “set up” the guard.

Clarke is to make his next court appearance on March 22 in Court Ten.
