No PM should serve more than two terms consecutively

Dear Editor,

Prior to the holding of the significant general elections on October 5, 1992, there existed a powerful civic movement whose acronym was GUARD. This movement consisted of people from all walks of life. Somehow the top brass of GUARD decided to join with the PPP.

At the conclusion of the 1992 elections the PPP/Civic took office with the late Dr. Cheddi Jagan as President and Mr. Samuel Hinds the Prime Minister from GUARD. After all these years Mr. Hinds is still in office and the civic movement seems to have disappeared. So Mr. Hinds has been Prime Minister for over seventeen years which seems to be an anomaly since the constitution has been revised and no president is supposed to serve more than two successive terms.

Soon elections are due to be held and it is hoped that wisdom dictates that further amendments should be made to our constitution  to stipulate no prime minister serves more than two terms consecutively.

Yours faithfully,
