Pattensen man remanded on rape charge

Keron Thompson, 28, of Pattenson, Turkeyen, was yesterday remanded to prison for allegedly raping a woman.

Thompson was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of rape when acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read it to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. The allegation is that on March 16, Thompson had carnal knowledge of a woman without her consent.

Thompson, who stood in the dock of the courtroom wearing handcuffs, told the magistrate that he hadn’t anything to say other than he was awaiting his lawyer’s appearance.

Prosecutor Stephen Telford stated that advice is to be sought in the matter from the Director of Public Prosecution.

The accused is expected to make another court appearance on April 6.
