GG&MC personnel should check back dams regularly for unsafe mining pits

Recently, two miners died in a 75-foot mining pit, after it caved in and covered them, then approximately, two weeks later another died under the same circumstance. To avert future tragedies therefore GG&MC personnel stationed in gold mining communities, should check back dams weekly to ensure that (1) Miners do not go deeper than forty feet. (2) to ensure that the right angles and slopes in pits are maintained as stipulated (3) Minors or under aged workers should not be employed in land dredging particularly to work in pits.

(4) that pit walls are solidly fortified in the process of jetting moreso, during heavy rains, to avoid any collapse of pit walls (5) GG&MC should access back dams to show videos on the right way of mining in order to avert future deaths caused by the caving in of pit walls and other factors. All miners, especially the young, should view these videos then practice the regulations relative to safe mining, for the safety of themselves and fellow miners.

Many miners specifically the juvenile, may believe that the right way is the one which enables them to extract much gold faster and easier. Thus I wish to close with this appropriate warning. “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” proverbs 14:12.

Yours faithfully,
George Carrington
