Attempted robbery suspects plead guilty to ganja possession

Ernest Patterson, 29, of Lovely Lass, WCB and Azeez Khan, 23, of Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara appeared before Magistrate Nigel Hawke at the Blairmont Court on Wednesday to answer the charge.

The court heard that on Sunday March 21 the defendants had in their possession 40 grammes of cannabis sativa.

Police reports are that around 10.30 am that day they received a call from a woman who operates a business below her home at Bush Lot, who said that three men with a gun had tried to rob her.

The woman told the police she had managed to close her door and scream out for help, and the men fled.

Ranks from the Fort Wellington Police Station who were alerted with descriptions of the men, immediately dispatched a patrol.

Reports are that the ranks were conducting searches in the area when they spotted two men making purchases at a grocery shop in the village.

Quick action by the ranks led to the arrest of the two men but the third one, who was reportedly carrying the gun, had already fled.

The police searched the men and found them with 30 grammes of the drug.

They also raided Patterson’s house at Lovely Lass where Khan was said to be staying at the time and found another 10 grammes.
