Police Superintendent fined $15,000 for drunken driving

ASP Bernard, who is stationed at the Police Mounted Branch, Eve Leary, made an appearance yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

He is expected to make another court appearance today to answer a dangerous driving charge.

He admitted that on April 3 at Thomas Road, Thomas Lands, he operated a vehicle under the influence of alcohol to such an extent as to be incapable of having proper control of the vehicle.

The accident occurred just after 1 pm but no one was seriously injured.

A police press release had stated that investigations revealed that Bernard “was proceeding on the northern side of the road and had strayed over into the path of two oncoming vehicles.”

In an attempt to avoid the collision one of the motorists swerved and collided with a lamp post while the other slammed into Bernard’s vehicle.

The release further stated that according to investigations shortly after the accident the officer was given a breathalyzer test which indicated that he was operating with an alcohol intake that was “above the prescribed limit in relation to alcohol consumption.”
