Armed robbers attack owner of Campbellville store

The proprietor of a city grocery was last night nursing serious injuries after he was gun-butted by a group of men who attacked him outside his business place.

Chet Singh, the owner of Best Buy Food Supplies, located at the junction of Middleton and Dennis Streets, was up to press time reportedly in an unconscious condition at a private hospital.

Residents told this newspaper last evening that the incident occurred some time before 9 pm, when the man and his employees were about to close the store.

They said four armed men approached the businessman and another employee who was outside the building at the time.

According to them, the employee apparently saw the men approaching and was able to run back into the store and to secure the premises while warning the other employees in the building.

The neighbours said that two men began to gun-butt Singh mercilessly with their weapons while two others attempted to break into the store.

It is unclear if the men fired any shots.  The neighbours said that after a while the men escaped by running east along Dennis Street.

It is unclear whether they escaped with any valuables.
