Businessman accused of sexually abusing girl, 13, over six-year period

A 13-year-old has alleged that a prominent businessman has been sexually molesting her and her sisters, with the consent of their mother.

According to a sworn affidavit by the child, seen by Stabroek News, the abuse began when she was seven-years-old. She said it only stopped recently when she refused to return to her mother’s home. The girl is now staying with a relative.

In the affidavit, the girl also alleges that the individual, with whom her mother is employed, has also molested two older sisters and two younger ones, who are nine-years-old and five-years-old. The girl has said in the latter stages of the abuse, she was being paid $2,000 weekly by the individual.

Stabroek News has been told that Red Thread has been informed of the abuse and is in the process of ensuring the the Child Care Protection Agency of the Ministry of Human Services is involved. “Because we are dealing with children, we want to have the Child Protection Agency involved,” an informed Red Thread source said last evening.

“But I have some serious problems with the matter being taken to the media before the relevant agencies are involved.

That is not how Red Thread operates,” the source said, adding, “This leaves an extremely bad taste in my mouth.”

Reports are that copies of the affidavit were being sent to Commissioner of Police Henry Greene and Human Services Minister Priya Manickchand.
