Vendor assaulted driver after ground provisions crushed

court hears
A vendor who allegedly assaulted a minibus driver who was blamed for driving over his ground provisions was placed on a total of $80,000 bail yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.

Junior Flue, 30, of 172 First Street, Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara,  was read three charges relating to the incident that took place on May 15.  He denied the charges.

It is alleged that on May 15 at Stabroek Market, he unlawfully assaulted Gilbert Wilson to cause him actual bodily harm.  It is also alleged that on the same day he made use of threatening language to Wilson.  It is further alleged that on May 20 at Brickdam lock-ups he behaved disorderly.

The prosecutor did not object to bail.  On the day in question, it is alleged that Flue accused Wilson of driving his bus over his ground provisions and he got a piece of wood and proceeded to hit Wilson about his body.  He then pulled out a knife and was advancing towards Wilson when he was held back by some by-standers.  At the station he reportedly behaved disorderly and was also charged for that offence.

He was then placed on $50,000 bail for the assault charge and  $15,000 on each of the two other charges.  The matter was transferred to Court 10 for July 7.
