The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana is calling on the Guyana government to join with the international community in condemning Israel for its commando raid on an international flotilla to Gaza that led to the “killing of ten peaceful aid workers and injury to dozens of others.”
The CIOG in a press release has described Israel’s action as “reprehensible” and noted that “some of our counterparts” have already withdrawn their official representatives in protest at this killing.
According to the CIOG, Israel’s action underscores its blatant disregard for the rule of international law and although this “heinous act has provoked outrage and condemnation by the international community” much more is desired.
In that light, the CIOG is urging that the Government of Guyana sever its relations with Israel immediately.
The CIOG said further that an international court of law should be immediately appointed to hold an inquiry into Israel’s action and pressure must be put on the Israeli government to respect the Palestinian people and failing to do so, their membership at the United Nations should be suspended.
Moreover, the CIOG is calling on the Israeli government to immediately discontinue its ongoing blockade of Gaza and any further acts of aggression on the flotilla or any other agencies undertaking humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people. Meanwhile, while world outrage has erupted over Israel’s deadly raid, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday in defending the blockade that it was vital for Israel’s security and would stay in place.
Netanyahu said easing controls would put long-range Iranian missiles into the hands of the Palestinian enclave’s Hamas rulers and that threatened not just Israel but Europe too.
Israel began releasing the 682 pro-Palestinian activists it arrested on the vessels earlier yesterday.
