Teen hit by speeding car in Sheriff Street

A 17-year-old employee of Nirva Supermarket located on Sheriff Street was hit by a speeding car last night around 10.30pm as she was crossing the road.

Keisha Pablo of 69 Prashad Nagar had left work minutes before the accident and was crossing the road when a vehicle heading in a northerly direction on Sheriff Street struck her.

According to other staff members who witnessed the accident, they had finished working for the day and it was customary for everyone to wait outside for transportation. However they said that Pablo would usually separate from the group to find her own transportation since she lived nearby.

The girls said the car came out of nowhere colliding with Pablo head on, and she was flung into the air from the impact. The speeding vehicle managed to stop at the traffic lights at the corner of Garnett and Sherriff Streets.

Meanwhile, a passing pick-up rushed Pablo to the hospital accompanied by her co-workers. The driver of the car which had hit her reportedly visited the hospital and later tried to escape, but was held by the police. He is now in custody.

Pablo was said to be bleeding heavily from the head and her arm was said to be broken. She was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Unit where she was being treated up to press time.

Meanwhile, Pablo’s aunt said that her niece would usually call to say she was coming home. The woman added she was worrying about why she did not receive the call, when shortly after, she received a call from a male who asked if she knew a Keisha, and was then told to go to the hospital.
