According to a Guyana Police Force statement on the accident, enquiries revealed that the pick-up was proceeding west along the road, allegedly at a fast rate, when Grant attempted to cross from north to south and ended up into the vehicle’s path.

As a result, the vehicle hit the cyclist, causing him to be launched a short distance away.

Grant, who received several injuries about his body, was picked up in an unconscious state by police ranks and immediately rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The body of Grant is presently lying at the Ezekiel Funeral Home where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

CCTV footage of the accident, which was seen by Stabroek News, showed Grant on his bicycle crossing the road when the pick-up, which was speeding, struck him, resulting in the man’s body being flung a far distance away from the initial point of impact. His cycle was also pitched and landed under a minibus which was coming from the opposite direction of the pick-up.
