‘Facebook’ for local businesses launched

Two information technology consultants Sean Rajkumar and Mohamed Faizoul are trying to “expose Guyanese businesses” to the world market with the launch of an online advertising website, gybizonline.com.

Mohamed Faizoul

Sean Rajkumar, a network administrator with IT Solutions on the West Coast of Demerara, and Mohamed Faizoul, an IT Consultant at Marian Academy, created the site, which they say is a web directory or yellow page service with a lot more to offer. They say the service will act as “the Facebook of local businesses.”

Noting that most – businesses do not have a lot of money to spare on advertising, marketing and promotional strategy, their online service, Rajkumar said, will “make the most of your advertising expenses.” Rajkumar said also that for businesses that already have a website, “We ensure that your website gets higher visibility in major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing.”

Explaining how the site works, Rajkumar said that businesses can choose from three subscription packages. These are: the personal subscription package for small business owners and freelancers; the professional package for medium to large scale businesses where subscribers will be automatically listed in the directory; and the corporate package which offers even more features than the others.

Businesses using the online service will be able to control their profile and update whenever they want. There will also be more for companies with existing websites, allowing for customer ratings, reviews and recommendations of products and services. The site boasts features such as company profiles, billboard advertisements, image galleries, video galleries, notices and invitations to tender, among others. Rajkumar also noted that in the case of invitation to tender ads, downloadable forms would be available to visitors of the site.

All packages offer businesses unlimited posts and have an annual cost which ranges between US$75 and US$350. All that is needed to sign up is a valid email address and basic company details.

Meanwhile, Rajkumar and Faizoul are assuring that the site is safe and secure, noting that every business would have full control of its security information, like passwords. Rajkumar also indicated that they are working to be certified by the US Bureau of Better Business. The Bureau’s focus is on customer protection and it reports on the reliability of businesses.

Rajkumar and Faizoul, who are working out of their homes, are optimistic that their idea will catch on and become the “new yellow pages” for businesses in Guyana. The service, which was two years in the making, was self-funded and they are currently targeting 300 businesses for use of the site.

Both men said that they are committed to seeing the project through and they consider their idea not as a money-making venture but as one that will be very beneficial to promoting local businesses on the international market.
