Amerindian ministry opens ‘staff empowerment space’

The Ministry of Amerindian Affairs recently opened a ‘staff empowerment space’ at its Quamina Street office in order to facilitate capacity building particularly in the area of population development.

Minister Pauline Sukhai said her ministry has always been proactive in ensuring the empowerment of staff and by extension the people it serves. According to a Government Information Agency press release, United Nations Population Fund, Assistant Resident Representative, Patrice La Fleur said the sessions with the staff will be conducted once a month for the next six months. The agenda includes discussions on reproductive health and rights, gender-based violence and sexual and reproductive health with special emphasis on maternal and neo-natal health.

La Fleur said her organization has also been involved in facilitating empowerment spaces at the Culture Ministry, the Bureau of Statistics and the Women’s Affairs Bureau.
