Taxi service owner and another man put on bail after brawl

The owner of a taxi service and another man who were charged with wounding and assaulting each other were placed on $30,000 bail each yesterday by acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.

Satyanand Sugrim, 41, of 48 Middle Street, Mc Doom,  the owner of S&S Taxi Service, pleaded not guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Nandalal Ramkishore on July 2.

Meanwhile, Ramkishore pleaded not guilty to assaulting Sugrim so as to cause him actual bodily harm on the same day.

Attorney Mohamed Zafar represented Ramkishore who told the court that his client had no antecedent and had sustained stab wounds to his head, face and shoulder which were inflicted by a knife.  He asked for reasonable bail to be granted.

However Sugrim said that he was attacked by Ramkishore and all he could have done was defend himself.   He said that he was cuffed and kicked about the body by Ramkishore and his injuries were inflicted by car keys which were in Sugrim’s hands.  He said that Ramkishore accused him of talking too much because he had prevented a driver attached to his service from drinking alcohol while on duty.  The alcohol was reportedly purchased at  Ramkishore’s shop.

The prosecutor did not object to bail but asked that a condition be attached so they would keep away from each other until the determination of the matter.

They were both then granted bail and the matter transferred to Court 10 for August 24.
