Berbice woman bled to death from neck wound – PM finds

A post-mortem examination was yesterday conducted on the body of Yaswattie Samaroo by Dr V Brijmohan who gave the cause of death as haemorhage and shock due to an incised wound to the neck, the police reported.

Samaroo was stabbed on July 23 last at Corentyne, Berbice by her reputed husband who then tried to hang himself and was subsequently hospitalised.

Hospital sources on Sunday said that the suspect, Kumar Ranjisingh, was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital that day.

The man was promptly taken away by the police as his seven-year-old daughter wept uncontrollably. A relative who was on hand told Stabroek News that his brother’s condition appeared to be okay.

The police in a release had stated that investigations so far revealed that Samaroo had gone to a shop during which she was attacked and stabbed about the body by her reputed husband. She was later pronounced dead on arrival at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

The release added that the police quickly located the suspect at his home (in Johns Squatting area) where he attempted to commit suicide as he was found hanging from a length of rope in his bedroom.

He was taken down and rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital from where he was transferred to the Georgetown Hospital under guard. A blood-stained knife suspected to be the murder weapon was recovered by the police.

Yesterday the force said that investigations were ongoing.
