I am sorry that a number of readers have been misled by my column ‘This could not possibly happen here, could it?’ into thinking that the Lords cricket ground is to be converted into a circus and an arena for Ultimate Fighting (Sunday Stabroek, August 1). I am happy to confirm that this is not so. I intended my column as a device to call attention to the proposal, apparently a serious one, to convert historic Bourda into an arena where cricket would no longer be played. But one upshot has been that a number of people have been genuinely concerned about Lords as a result. I apologise to them. I can quite see that reading about such a desecration would shock any cricket lover.
