South Ruimveldt Park teen burnt with acid

A 17-year-old boy of Lamaha Place, South Ruimveldt Park was last evening admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital after an acidic substance was thrown in his face during an argument.

Theon Adams’ relatives told this newspaper at the hospital that the lad sustained burns to the left side of his face, his neck and chest following the incident. A relative related that shortly after 8 last evening one of  Adams’ neighboura and another teen  were arguing when the young man intervened.

She said that Adams asked his assailant “to leave the other boy alone” and left the scene. Shortly after, as the lad was returning to his house, the man who he had earlier upbraided, “rush out and throw acid in he face”, the woman recounted.

She said the injured teen ran into a nearby yard to seek assistance with his assailant in pursuit and according to another relative, the man attempted to throw a lighted match on the injured boy but the flames only caught his shirt.

Relatives related that Adams was not known to have any previous grievances with his assailant and as such, last evening’s attack came as a surprise to family members. His condition was listed as serious, hospital sources related.

The matter was reported to the East La Penitence Police Station.
