Corporal on indecent assault charge

A police corporal accused of indecently assaulting a woman was yesterday granted bail in the sum of $80,000 when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Bonnie Jordan, 48, of 4081 North Ruimveldt, Festival City was not required to plead to the indictable charge of indecent assault when it was read to him by the magistrate. It is alleged that between December 1st and 31st 2009, he indecently assaulted the female.

Attorney-at-law Patrice Henry, who represented Jordan, told the court that while he did not want to expose the entire details of what had transpired, it was important for the court to note that the woman had “ulterior motives.”

According to Henry, his client had cause to discipline the virtual complainant (VC) on an issue in his capacity as a police officer.  “My worship, he had cause to discipline the VC, as a result, she became annoyed and subsequently filed charges against the defendant. She has her own motives, but the truth will be ventilated at the time of the trial,” the lawyer argued.

He then applied for bail for his client on the grounds that Jordan poses no risk of flight, has no previous convictions and has been fully cooperating with the police in their investigations.

The police prosecutor had no objection to the bail application. The VC was not present in court.
Jordan was later granted $80 000 bail. His lawyer made a request for a reduction of this sum but his request was denied.

Jordan was ordered to return to court on September 13 for reports and fixtures.
