Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton granted $30,000 bail to a labourer charged with break and entry and larceny when he on Wednesday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on Wednesday, at Georgetown, Gary Kanhai of 315 Middle Street, Georgetown broke and entered the dwelling house of Vibert John and stole items valued $28,500. He also stole, from the said dwelling house, a music set valued $50,000, property of Michael Bamfield.
The defendant was not required to plead to the indictable charge of break and enter and larceny.
When given a chance to respond to the charge Kanhai instead attempted to explain himself but the magistrate cautioned him that he will be allowed to do so at the time of trial. Kanhai then asked for reasonable bail.
Neither of the virtual complainants appeared in court.
Kanhai was ordered to appear in court on September 13.
