Crabwood Creek man shot in chest

-circumstances unclear
Just after 8 last night a man was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) from Berbice for further emergency treatment after he suffered a gunshot wound to the chest under circumstances which remain unclear.

Rickford Joseph, police said in a press release last night, was shot and wounded to his chest. Joseph, 37, was in his Crabwood Creek, Berbice yard when he was reportedly shot, police said. The incident, according to them, occurred at about 11.30 am yesterday.

Investigations revealed that Joseph was at the back of his yard emptying garbage when he heard an explosion and felt a burning sensation to his chest. He was taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was treated and later transferred to the Georgetown Hospital.
Investigations, police said, are in progress.

Meanwhile, when Stabroek News visited the GPH minutes after Joseph arrived there several relatives were present. When approached by this newspaper they refused to comment. However, a relative later said that Joseph was fixing the sink when a “stray bullet” came out of nowhere and wounded the man.

Stabroek News has been reliably informed that Joseph was in a critical condition.
“We have nothing else to say,” a relative said, “and we don’t even want this thing in the press.”
