Yonette Neptune

Nearly three weeks ago Neptune, 38, of Stevedore Housing Scheme was hit by a vehicle on the corner of Norton Street and Cemetery Road some time between 2.30 am to 4 am on August 3. She was said to have been lying helplessly there until a passing security vehicle picked her up and took her to the hospital.

Yesterday at the hospital, Neptune struggled to remember where she was going on the day she was hit. “I don’t remember,” she says with a shake of her head.

When Neptune was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital she was slipping in and out of consciousness. In one of her conscious moments she gave her name and address to hospital officials. Last week Neptune took a turn for the worse when, according to her sister, Janice, she was in need of four pints of blood. Yesterday Neptune said that she had gotten the blood and has been in the Female Surgical Ward for close to week.

Neptune suffered two broken legs as a result of the accident. As she sat on her bed yesterday bruises in various stages of healing were visible all over her body.

She was very concerned about the fact that she will not be able to use her legs for a while. “This hey,” she says touching her leg, “I don’t know what I gon do.” Neptune says that she sells ital food for a living around the Demico area in downtown Georgetown.
