Albion burglar jailed for two years

Shaheed Mohammed, 25, of Albion, will spend the next two years in jail after he pleaded guilty to breaking and entering a woman’s house.

Mohammed, called “Bafee,” appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at the New Amsterdam Court and pleaded guilty to the charge of break and entering with intent to commit a felony. He admitted that he entered the dwelling house of Geeta Johnny, of Nigg Village, Corentyne Berbice.

Police Prosecutor Inspector Satrohan Dayaram told the court that Johnny, a waitress at a disco in the area, was at home sleeping when she was aroused by the sound of someone walking in her house. She immediately raised an alarm and the person jumped over the veranda and ran. Upon looking outside, she was able to see Mohammed, who she knew. She called his name and he turned back and started to argue with her. A report was made and Mohammed was arrested and charged.
